Welcome to the first issue of the F&I newsletter in 2010. Our focus this month is ...

... the Faculty sessional meeting on 15 February, when Alistair Milne will present on systemic risk in financial services.  This was a major piece of research by Cass Business School, commissioned by the Profession, and the paper can be found here.  The meeting will be held at the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, 5.00 for 5.30 pm start.

Risk and Investment conference

13-15 June

The theme for this year's conference is “Investing for success - balancing risk and reward”. We have an excellent line up of external speakers from the financial press, academia, banking and asset management, including authors of some of the definitive books on the crisis.  Also included are more sessions from practioners on how these techniques are actually being applied in actuaries’ daily roles. More details will be included on a microsite, available on our website shortly - an e-flyer should be landing in your inbox next Tuesday.

Discount rates - a chance to have your say

The Profession is undertaking a cross-practice thought leadership research project on discount rates. Part of that project is the commissioning of objective research on current practice in this area. A call for proposals has been launched and the successful bid will be announced later this month. There will be opportunities for members to get involved more generally - details will appear in the research area of the website shortly.
